Orange County First Dance. Wedding Dance.

Jenny & Steven with their dog Einstein

This past week I was delighted to get to interview fantastic students of our Orange County First Dance Studio, Jenny and Steven. They have been preparing their wedding dance to reveal at their wedding on May 28th at Ranch Las Lomas! From the moment they came into Bella Ballroom, they had a very bubbly, fun, and excited attitude. I am so happy for them and their future together! Here is a little bit about them as a couple, their wedding, and their experience here at Bella Ballroom Dance Studio.

When is your wedding and where exactly will you perform your Orange County First Dance?

J: Our wedding is at Rancho Las Lomas, this Saturday, May 28th, 2016.

How did you meet?

J: We met at work at this Asian Initiative Event.

S: Completely by Coincidence.

J: Yes. Some of our colleagues decided to stay after for food and drinks, and we got to hang out with each other. Really that was it.

S: We worked in different cities and then I got asked to work in Orange County. That is when we decided to start seeing each other.

How long have you guys been together for?

Both: 7 years

What is your first dance song? Why did you choose it for your wedding? Does it have any significance for your first dance?

J: Ed Sheran’s “Thinking Out Loud”

S: The first time I heard it, I knew it was going to be our first dance. I think I said it. I even know where I was; upstairs in the old house walking out of the master bedroom into one of the spare bedrooms. It was perfect.

What type of wedding dance are you working on for your wedding?

Both: Waltz

Who is your dance instructor?

Both: Ziva

What is your favorite part about taking wedding dance lessons?

J: I would say Steven’s enthusiasm. He actually likes it and is taking it seriously.

S: I think anytime we can do something together, I enjoy it.

Do you have a favorite move that you’re working on during your dance lessons? If so, what is it?

S: Death Drop

J: I think it’s when I lean into him…. The side lean where he is holding me up.

What do you find most challenging about the process of taking wedding dance classes?

Both: Time.

J: Finding time to practice outside of class.

S: Time to make it to class and practice outside of it.

Do people know you’re going to an Orange County first dance studio for lessons or is it a surprise?

J: Some… I would rather not tell anybody but Steven…

S: I got to tell them (Colleagues) where I’m going after work.

J: Its more not wanting my family to expect something grand.

What inspired you to take dance lessons?

S: Not being embarrassed when Jenny convinced me to do a first dance.

J: I think I wanted to make it a little bit more special.

How do dance classes compare to other elements of planning your wedding?

S: I have to be involved. Haha! Kidding. Kidding. It’s the one true thing that we are doing together. Other times we are kind of presenting ideas to each other.

J: Yea, collaboration…. It’s a nice break.

While taking wedding dance lessons, has it inspired you to take other dance lessons for other styles? Do you want to pursue more?

J: Yes! Salsa!

S: We’ll see after the final result.

What was your first impression coming into our Orange County first dance studio to take classes and what is your impression now? How has it changed?

J: That it was going to be difficult, but it was easier than I thought. Although we need to practice, we picked it up quickly, so that was nice.

S: I didn’t know what to expect coming in. It was very Professional. It was efficient.

Do you have any advice for future couples?

S: Start early!

J: Fun time and don’t be intimidated.
