Meet Dance Instructor, Ziva!

Tell us about yourself.

Rainbow unicorns and shimmies… That’s what little Ziva’s are made of!

What made you start dancing?

MC Hammer. Don’t ask me why or how, but my first dance memory is dancing with my dad in the kitchen to MC Hammer. The typewriter anyone?

What style of dance do you do?

Anything I can get my hands and feet on! From World to Western Dance. Partner, Group, and Solo.

Do you do any other type of dance other than Ballroom?

(see above)

What is the hardest part about dancing?

I think it’s different for everyone and it depends on the dance and the circumstance. Some people have a hard time following rhythm or finding connection to the music. Other students may lack strength or flexibility. Dancers who perform may get stage fright or need to work on their stage presence. In general, dancers wanting to improve past their comfort zone and take their dance to the next level will need to exercise commitment and discipline.

What is your favorite type of dance?

Like Lays… You can’t have just one!

How would you describe your dance style?

Eclectic. Driven by emotion and the music.

How would you describe your teaching style?

Patient and encouraging. I have 110% faith in my students, even when they don’t. There are a lot of different learning styles, so I like to find what works best for each student, while keeping it fun.

What benefits has dancing given you?

Dancing has opened my world. Because of dance I’ve had the most beautiful life opportunities and connections. I’ve met some of my best friends and most inspiring and creative people through dance. I’m so grateful I’ve been able to travel the world teaching and performing and sharing dance. As a result of dance, I’ve learned about different cultures, customs, and traditions. It’s also given me health benefits. Practicing dance has improved my balance, strength, flexibility and more. I’ve used dance as a tool for therapy and expression. It’s my outlet and is such a huge part of who I am.

What is your most memorable moment? (While teaching or just in general, you can choose)

Getting a concussion. (Just joking! But that did happen.)
